Layering

I Love rooms that have that cozy comfortable feeling, but can also encompass a little bit of elegance. I think you can get that look by layering. Here, I layered not one, but two rugs on top of each...other on top of carpet (Yes..rugs can go on top of carpet and look fabulous)...this could also help to cover up any worn or dingy carpet areas that never seem to get any better no matter how many times you clean ( without actually replacing the whole carpet).  Both rugs are of natural fibers, but have different textures and opposite colors so they play off of each other nicely. Also, I layer mismatched pillows all around the room, but they have similar colors in common so it works. Layering throws on top of chairs or even runners and mats on top of tables give the room more dimension and adds more interest. I layer in all my rooms and I believe it can take any room from ok to outstanding! :)..
